Daniel M. Stack Memorial Library
The Miami International University of Art & Design Daniel M. Stack Memorial
Library is a focal point for information, study, literacy,
and research for the entire university community. The Library
contributes to every aspect of academic and intellectual sustenance
at the University by providing a broad range of services to students,
faculty, administration, staff, and the surrounding community.
Library Access
The Daniel M. Stack Memorial Library is located on the Mezzanine
floor of The Grand. The library is open to the university community
and all members of The Art Institutes. The library is recognized
by SEFLIN, and the student-faculty body has access and borrowing
privileges at most southeast Florida colleges and universities.
The Library is open:
Monday to Thursday: 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sundays and Holidays: Closed
Library Staff
An experienced library staff with expertise in the arts and
other related disciplines provides a wide variety of services
to patrons and promotes the information skills necessary for
students to be productive in an ever-changing environment.
Library Resources and Facilities
The Library provides access to variety of learning resources
to meet the needs of students and faculty in the current educational
programs at the associates, bachelors, and masters
levels and cover a wide array of subjects. The Librarys
extensive holdings include books, serial collection, including
a unique Vogue collection of periodicals from 1947 till current,
scripts, students theses, multimedia resources, and
a special collection comprising rare books in History of Fashion.
Numerous computers and computer network connections provide
access to the Internet, electronic database subscriptions,
e-magazines, and a variety of last versions of software programs.
Library users also enjoy access to the Stacks, Seminar Room,
Multimedia Room, and Learning Research Center. The Daniel
M. Stack Memorial Library currently occupies a total area
of 2,000 square feet.
Library Education
The Daniel M. Stack Memorial Library offers comprehensive
orientation and bibliographic instruction programs. Library
instructions and library policies are available to all freshmen
students and new hired faculty. Also subject-based presentations
and individual consultations on how to locate and evaluate
information using the Librarys electronic and print
resource are available in the Library. In addition, computer
services staff maintain library systems and assist users with
computer-related questions and problems.
Library Services
The University Library provides interlibrary loans; consortiums
borrowing privileges from SEFLIN Library Card program and
the Library Information Resource Network for private colleges
and universities. A course reserve system, in which professors
place instructional materials on reserve for in-library use,
gives students access to additional resources to explore the
Library. The Library also provides computer printing scanning,
photocopy service, CD burners, individual/group study rooms,
and audio-video equipment.
Slide and Video Collections
The Library extensive slide collection includes over 15,000
slides, and over 1,000 of video cassettes that support the
Universitys curriculum. Slides, slides carousels, video
cassettes are available only for faculty and staff use only.
